Sleeping or thinking? It doesn’t really matter. This giraffe seems to be solving all the world’s problems. You know the elders have to do such things when there’s a new young’n in their midst.
At least it is refraining from fighting (0:37 mark below).
Sloane: “The city looks so peaceful from up here.” Ferris: “Anything is peaceful from one thousand, three hundred and fifty-three feet.” Cameron: “I think I see my dad.”
In the last post, we looked at timing and the motives behind the drive by Southwest Airlines to build an international terminal at Houston’s Hobby Airport. Let’s step back and look at what an expansion at Hobby would do.
There is a storm brewing in the Houston Airport System between United Airlines and Southwest Airlines about Southwest wanting to start international flights from Hobby Airport. A lot of what I have been reading on Twitter, Facebook, and news website comments is the excitement that Southwest would do this, how awesome Hobby Airport is, and how United is a big bad bully for objecting to it. As great as competition sounds, I have my reservations about this project and the motives behind it.
This was the email that we received from one of the editors/writers/photographers of The Loop Scoop this weekend. We happened to agree with the man.
Hey guys,
I am currently uploading some photos to our Flickr page that I took this weekend. I thought it’d be funny to go around and photograph the different bail bonds signs in and around downtown.

Houston is really getting into the street food game lately. Every week seems to host a new truck opening: some good, some not so good, and some that are amazing. With a little skepticism about the newest food truck to open, this weekend’s experience not only set me straight, it made me overjoyed to have this rolling purveyor of encased meats in our fine city. I’m talking about Good Dog Hot Dogs.
The holding company for the merged Continental/United has announced a plan to install WiFi in 200 aircraft starting in 2012. The installation will take place on Boeing 737 and 757 aircraft outfitted with DirecTV. This implies that only the Continental aircraft will receive the upgrade since only their planes have DirecTV. Currently United’s p.s. flights between New York and Los Angeles and San Francisco have WiFi and it’s unclear if they will keep their GoGo internet service or move to the new Ka-Band service.
I had a chance to meet up with burger extraordinaire, Ricky Craig, to talk about his newest venture, Hubcap Grill and Beer Garden. Set to open sometime in mid-April (sooner if antagonists stop calling 311), it’s what Ricky calls his “playground”. I always get the sense that Ricky is really passionate about his craft and this discussion was no different. It’s rare to hear someone so energized about what they do. This is also Craig’s chance to get out of the kitchen a little and relax, and there isn’t anything wrong with that, we think he’s earned a little play time.
It’s not often that I stray away from my go-to coffee shop for a latte or cappuccino, so I was jumping out of my comfort zone when I did so this past weekend. While doing a quick browse of my Twitter feed, I saw the name of a new coffee shop in Montrose mentioned a couple of times and decided to check it out for myself. All I knew was the name, Bungalow, and that they were new to Twitter.
For most people Austria is the country of Mozart, Freud, and Vienna sausages. While those are certainly mainstays of this small central-European country, there is a whole lot more when you start digging into the historic and cultural surroundings. I know, becuase I spent MLK weekend traveling through the German state of Bavaria into the city of Salzburg.
