Bush or Hobby? IAH or William P.? Five terminals or one? You’d think a decision on which to use in your traveling adventures would be as simple as whether or not your flight is domestic or cross border. Perhaps the prevailing winds are in the price point—historically Hobby’s been known as less of a coin sucker than its big brother up the Four-Five. As Stephan’s latest article proposes, there may come a day in the near future when these adages no longer have much bearing. In light of the possibilities and realities, who ya got? Or does one simply say f$%k it—I’m driving?

A burger used to be some ground chuck between a Butter Krust bun. Twenty years ago, the philosophy of using fresh produce, Kobe beef or chutney over mayo woulda got you run outta town. My how things have changed. Our attention spans have shortened so much that now we……wait a minute- what was I saying? Oh yeah- now we need options! Everyone’s got their burger besty, so without further ado…who ya got?

After last week’s list, we started thinking about the freeways that define us and our city. Not really, but we thought it might be fun to try to pick favorites. I mean, can you really have a favorite congested, oft-under-construction mess? Obviously… because there’s a poll down below to cast your vote.

Describing why your favorite taco joint is numero uno isn’t as easy as choosing flour or corn, bacon or chorizo. The tiniest detail can make or break this unofficial breakfast of Houston and polarize fan bases. We know they’ve got some offerings that can run with the best, but with the exception of Tacqueria Don Tin #3, we’ve left the taco truck battle to be fought another day and picked some stationary heavy-hitters (not named Torchy’s). Who ya got?

If there’s anything we’ve learned since Al Gore invented the forest, it’s that fire is as much a symbol of rebirth as it is anything else. With the Valentine’s Day fire at Sullivan’s Steakhouse making the well-liked restaurant close its doors for the time being, it made us wonder what other recent fires at Houston hotspots created a burning in their fans for the doors to reopen renewed.

Bistro. What exactly does that mean? Coffee? A cold beer on a patio? Food that a chef in the back actually cares about? Well, it’s all of those things, really, and we realize that just about any old place could be considered one. But it’s a French word, and the French know romance, right? So, just in time for Valentine’s Day, we’ve added a little twist for this week’s competition—it’s got to be a place worthy of some hot, V-Day action. Who ya got?

We’re not exactly sure what kind of “town” Houston is when it comes to food. The great part about being here is that we don’t have to choose. Delicious fajitas one night. Fantastic burgers the next. Steak night can be every night. Houston has a variety of Pizza options. Each unique. Each incomparable with the other… Until now.
Today we force your hand. You must choose. What’s your favorite pizza?

With all of the fresh competition on the horizon (Buffalo Bayou/Moon Tower/Gulf Brewing Co.), new Texas micro-brews have miles to go before they sleep. There’s the top dog St. Arnold’s, but there’s also that middle ground of sud-makers doing whatever they can to entrench themselves before the next challenger enters this game of thrones. So, loyal Loopsters, who’s got the right stuff? Who will still be around in a decade? If you don’t see your favorite up-and-comer, leave a comment and let us know who you think will be standing when the smoke clears. We might just add them to the master Showdown bracket at the end of the year!

More than a year’s worth of voting has come down to this one match. It’s the DRINK Category standing toe to toe with the EXPERIENCE Category. Who will win?
The Saint Arnold Pub Crawls have slugged it out with the Menil Collection, the Greek Festival, Lights in the Heights, and finally Riding Out a Hurricane. If that isn’t stout competition, we’re not sure what it is.
Pearland Coffee Roasters has handily beaten up Anvil Bar & Refuge, the Harp, and Shoeshine Charlie’s Big Top Lounge, and most recently Zelko Bistro. In such a rough and tumble scene, how’d they do it?
It’s voting time. Cast yours to make sure your pick reigns supreme!

#1 in the “Great Unknown,” Riding Out a Hurricane is turning out to be the behemoth we imagined it would be, when we put this bracket together. It’s made easy work of its first, second, and third round opponents, Antiquing, Houston Transit, and the Food Truck Fad.
The Saint Arnold Pub Crawls are also doing what they do so well—beating the competition. First it was the Menil Collection, then it was the Greek Festival that was felled.
It all comes down to this. Which of these number one seeds will face off in the title match-up. Only your votes can determine the victor.
