The Week That Was 12.19.10

“Spontaneity is the spice of life and I’ve indulged quite a bit,” or so says Cee Lo. I’m not too high on calendars or schedules or evites or whatever fancy gadgets you kids are using these days. Champion is the night unplanned. This weekend was full of those kinds of opportunities for things both good and bad to pop up. Luckily for us they all turned up roses.

The Week That Was 12.12.10

This past week brought with it visitors from Dallas. In this event I did what any good Houstonian would and should do for our brothers and sisters to the North – I took them to Landry’s, Casa Ole, and to show them we’re not so different after all, the Culture Map Mega Base. That’s all a lie. I would never put them through that. Beaver’s, fresh seafood in Galveston at Shrimp and Stuff, Lights in the Heights, and a bit of reverence at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart stormed our itinerary and left us reeling with joy.

The Week That Was 12.5.10

What was wrong with me this weekend? I didn’t watch a lick of football. Maybe a total of a dozen snaps made it from the glowing blue box to my eyes from Thursday on. Was I hung over? A little. Was I busy? Sure, why not… All I know is that on Monday, back at work, I have nothing to talk about to my co-workers. Then again, that’s not a new revelation.

The Week That Was 11.28.10

With the Thanksgiving holiday in our back pocket, it’s only natural to look forward to bigger and better things. Unless the holiday left you depressed and desperate… In that case, you’re just just looking for something smaller and marginally good. Being that we had a lot to be thankful for this past weekend, we’re going to change things up a little bit since there will be a lot of big changes in 2011. We’ll start with a revamped The Week That Was format in 2010. Let’s ease into it, shall we?

The Week That Was 11.14.10

Grocery stores scare the ever-living ish out of me. I’m not really sure what causes all the anxiety. It’s not like I’m a political exile from Iran who is not used to seeing such foodstuff in abundance. Every time I walk into the rows of cereal, cherry tomatoes, paper towels and frozen dinners my heart starts pounding in my chest and I can feel my hair start to fall out. It’s the strangest thing.

The Week That Was 10.31.10

How’s everyone feeling? Still a bit hungover perhaps? I know that after two full nights of sleep Halloween festivities are still lingering in my system. Then again, some of you might have been smart enough to not hit the bottle (literally) like I did. Halloween was but one night – even though it seems we could celebrate it three straight days this year – in a week full of other stuff to do.

The Week That Was 10.24.10

“What the hell did I do this week?” was the question that I asked Richard this morning as I was putting together this column. It’s a sad day when you realize that you’ve been all around town and might not have anything to show for it. Luckily, he reminded me of a couple of the things that made the schedule and here we have a column. Worth reading? Now that’s up to you.

The Week That Was 10.18.10

This week was a short one for me, what with the recovering from ACL and all. It’s quite possible that I’m not truly recovered even today. Walking, sweating, drinking and rocking for three days straight certainly takes it out of you. Then again, I guess I’m talking about a short work-week considering that Monday night I found myself up to my old tricks: sipping old fashioneds at Anvil. Just when you think the obsession with drinking all classy-like is over, you get sucked right back in.

The Week That Was 10.10.10

With The Loop Scoop Superman flying faster than a speeding bullet over to Austin to check out some little music festival they have up there, that left the rest of us to write up The Week That Was. Unfortunately, we’re all pretty boring. Nothing exciting to see here. No week long benders, no sauced up karaoke nights, no all you can eat steak nights. Sorry Houston. Have no fear, though, Paul will be back next week and so will his crazy adventures through H-town. In the meantime, you’ll just have to make do with us.

The Week That Was 10.3.10

This week I have to go out of town. Honestly, I haven’t been out of town since a weekend trip to Chicago back in the spring. Maybe I’ve become a little bit too comfortable in my Houston life, but for some reason I’m not very excited about being in DC for the next three days. On top of that, I get home, stay two nights and then enter the foreign wasteland that is Austin. Austin City Limits is a fantastic time. I’m looking forward to it. Also, I’m looking forward to the festival organizer comparing ACL to Summer Fest. Wait, that will never happen. That’s just what we Houstonians do with our inferiority complex
