H-Town Showdown: #1 Saint Arnold Pub Crawl vs. #6 The Greek Festival

Now that the first round of the H-Town Showdown is officially over, things get a bit more interesting. Those that made it, did so because of their strong followings. Sides had to be chosen. Rifts were created. The coming decisions will only get more difficult.

In the second match, Houston’s most famous beer muscles one of its most well known festivals—it’s any Saint Arnold Pub Crawl challenging The Greek Festival. Combined, they had to slug it out with the Menil Collection and the Buffalo Bayou Regatta just to get here. Tough call. Who’ve ya got?

Seed #1: Saint Arnold Pub Crawl
When it comes to all things beer, there’s an overlord in town. That man is/was Saint Arnold. When the people behind the brewery call for the lovers of their suds to come out and enjoy a romp around the bars with them, Houstonians show up in throngs. Why wouldn’t they? A glass for the effort of drinking a couple of Houston-crafted beers (and each pub crawl highlights a particular seasonal, oh joy). What am I saying? You can’t even classify this as taking any “effort” at all. Whether Saint Arnold Brewery holds the pub crawl in Midtown, Montrose, West U, The Heights, or more recently Galveston, it’s a sight to behold.

Seed #6: The Original Greek Festival
It isn’t enough that the Greek’s dominate the late night food scene with Biba’s. It’s not enough that they’ve cornered the coffee market with Byzantio and Agora. Not to mention every four years we have to pay them homage at the Olympics, and even worse, every November we have to thank them for democracy… No, we also celebrate Greek food, drink, dance and music every year in Houston. Sheesh. All kidding aside. The Greek Festival held at the Greek Orthodox church in Montrose is an event that Houstonians look forward to every year. Food, dance, wares, you can find it all while walking around slugging back a bottle of Greek wine. Unfortunately you will have to wait until October 6th, 2011 rolls around for the next rendition. While your waiting just stay in tune with things at Niko Niko’s.

Question closes on September 13th

It’s Greek to me.. literally. Would I trade a few days of Greek joy for a mess of great pub crawl? Nope, and neither should you.
