H-Town Showdown: #3 Antidote Coffee vs. #6 The Harp
Welcome to our H-Town Showdown series. Our brackets are seeded and the contenders for the title are ready to go. On a bi-weekly basis we’ll present a new match-up. There will be four weeks of voting for each competition in each round. So rally up your friends, followers and fans. This will be a true test of attrition.
While last week’s Showdown struck a chord with it’s randomness, this week we go back to the original format to have two heavyweights take swings at each other. Do you want to kick-start your day or bring your night to a slow boil. That’s your choice. Antidote grabbed the three-seed of our original voting, while Harp came in at a hearty sixth. Now they face each other head to head for the first time.
Seed #3: Antidote Coffee
Serving as our unofficial official weekly meeting spot, it’s no surprise that Antidote ranks so high on this list. Offering something for all tastes, this eclectic coffee joint attracts all kinds. So whether you’re tatted up or fratted out, Antidote got a seat for you. Whether you use it as a respite from a crazy roommate, a quiet haven to finish up that project or a place to meet for a conversation is up to you. Of course, with a myriad of different faces, the people watching is top notch. We’ve witnessed a parking lot fender bender, overheard conversations about little pink panties and refereed a D&D tourney. If your lucky, you might even get to sit next to us, and really, that is what we love most about Antidote: They put up with our Loop Scoop shenanigans, which is more than we can say about a lot of places.
Seed #6: The Harp
Who is John Galt? He’s not the bartender of The Harp, but that’s the question that adorns the walls of the bathroom, scribbled over and over again. Libertarian sympathizers are not the only ones allowed to enjoy the drinks of The Harp. All walks of life wander in and out for darts, trivia and spots in the cozy living room situated in the center of the bar. The more Houston changes, the more The Harp remains the same. Along with the other Irish pubs within a two-mile radius, Harp feels like it has been there since the dawn of time and forever will remain. There’s nothing special about the drink prices or motif, but it still remains a favorite neighborhood bar on my list and many others (well, at least those that voted for it to be seeded in this Showdown).
Voting closes June 8th at 12PM Noon
