H-Town Showdown: #4 Zelko Bistro vs. #1 Hubcap Grill
And we let the third round officially begin. There are only eight remaining competitors. These are the finals for each of our remaining categories. Who will come out on top in each quarter of the original brackets: EAT, DRINK, EXPERIENCE and ?????. These are lofty questions for so meek of a website.
Our #1 seed in the EAT portion had its hands full, but eventually defeated Himalaya in the second round. Zelko Bistro, ranked fourth, made quick work of the surprising #7 Tiny Boxwoods. It sets up this epic showdown to see who will come out on top and make it to the quarterfinals. Who’s it going to be?
Seed #4: Zelko Bistro
When I think of the Heights, I think of the little bungalows that line half-streets. What better way to capture that comfortable persuasion than to adapt one a’ those old homes into an intimate restaurant? That’s exactly what Jamie Zelko and Jeb Stuart did with their bistro. The atmosphere is relaxed. The food is tremendous. It truly feels like it’s part of the neighborhood. Zelko Bistro can be your everyday eatery or the place you save for a special occasion. Versatile and delicious.
Seed #1: Hubcap Grill
There are more than a few places in this city to grab a decent burger, but at the top of the list has to be Hubcap Grill. Whether you want a classic burger with cheese or are a more adventurous type with an affinity for the strange, how’s about the Sticky Burger or Waffle Burger? Fries? Ricky has you covered there too. Greek Fries or Hell Fries, anyone? The location in downtown has thrived thus far and the newest installment of the brand—the beer garden in the Heights—already promises to do much of the same. Look, I made it five sentences without mentioning the Cheesy Cheetos Burger. That’s a record. It’s also my favorite pick off the menu. Cheetos. Cheez Whiz. Heaven. Challenge your perceptions of Houston’s burger spots and try one today.
