H-Town Showdown: #6 The Harp vs. #1 Pearland Coffee Roasters

Now that the first round of the H-Town Showdown is officially over, things get a bit more interesting. Those that made it, did so because of their strong followings. Sides had to be chosen. Rifts were created. The coming decisions will only get more difficult.

In the first match, an old neighborhood pub clashes with a new community coffee shop—it’s The Harp challenging Pearland Coffee Roasters. Combined, they had to slug it out with Antidote Coffee and Shoeshine Charlie’s Big Top Lounge just to get here. Tough call. Who’ve ya got?

Seed #6: The Harp
Who is John Galt? He’s not the bartender of The Harp, but that’s the question that adorns the walls of the bathroom, scribbled over and over again. Libertarian sympathizers are not the only ones allowed to enjoy the drinks of The Harp. All walks of life wander in and out for darts, trivia and spots in the cozy living room situated in the center of the bar. The more Houston changes, the more The Harp remains the same. Along with the other Irish pubs within a two-mile radius, Harp feels like it has been there since the dawn of time and forever will remain. There’s nothing special about the drink prices or motif, but it still remains a favorite neighborhood bar on my list and many others (well, at least those that voted for it to be seeded in this Showdown).

Seed #1: Pearland Coffee Roasters
Pearland Coffee Roasters has been around for just over a year and half. If you haven’t been—I’m sorry. They’re roasting fair-trade coffee beans, brewing delicious beverages, and putting the burbs on the map for more than a place of chain establishments. From those inside the loop, to Pearlanders that call themselves regulars, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone with an unkind word towards this thriving local shop. In fact, they’ve become so popular they’ve had to move into a larger space as of May, this year. While we haven’t hit the new digs just yet, it wont be long before we do.

Poll closes 9.1.11 at Noon
