H-Town Showdown: #7 Lights in the Heights vs. #1 Saint Arnold Pub Crawl
And we let the third round officially begin. There are only eight remaining competitors. These are the finals for each of our remaining categories. Who will come out on top in each quarter of the original brackets: EAT, DRINK, EXPERIENCE and ?????. These are lofty questions for so meek of a website.
We only have one true Cinderella left in this tournament. That would be the #7 seeded Lights in the Heights. So far it has beaten the Art Car Parade and the Rodeo Cook-Off. Not only that, it’s right around the corner yet again. The Saint Arnold Pub Crawls are doing what they do so well, beat the competition. First it was the Menil Collection, then it was the Greek Festival that was felled.
Seed #7: Lights in the Heights
It’s not the holidays without the houses getting dressed up in their best and brightest decorations. One of Houston’s oldest neighborhoods takes it a bit further. It’s not the holidays without closing down the streets, breaking out the flasks and walking around with your fellow Houstonians taking in Lights in the Heights. There are carolers, cover bands and rockers to be heard. Ginormous inflatable Frostys to be seen. And don’t forget the horse droppings to almost step in. Ah, the Heights has it all, especially on this particular night.
Seed #1: Saint Arnold Pub Crawl
When it comes to all things beer, there’s an overlord in town. That man is/was Saint Arnold. When the people behind the brewery call for the lovers of their suds to come out and enjoy a romp around the bars with them, Houstonians show up in throngs. Why wouldn’t they? A glass for the effort of drinking a couple of Houston-crafted beers (and each pub crawl highlights a particular seasonal, oh joy). What am I saying? You can’t even classify this as taking any “effort” at all. Whether Saint Arnold Brewery holds the pub crawl in Midtown, Montrose, West U, The Heights or otherwise, it’s a sight to behold.
