Houston Helps: Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston

Houston is a generous city. In unearthing and seeking out Houston’s untold story, we figured telling of its charitable nature needed to be part of this ever growing tale. That being said, here’s another opportunity to give back to this city. Love Houston. Help Houston.

Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston, Inc. (MSRH) is an all-volunteer, non-profit, 501c3 charitable organization sponsored entirely by donations.  We are dedicated to the never-ending, sometimes overwhelming, task of saving the lives of abused, abandoned and/or unwanted Miniature Schnauzers who have lost their homes.  Many of our dogs come to us healthy.  Others are sick or injured.  They may come to us from shelters, from the streets, from puppy mills or from owners who cannot, or will not, care for them any longer. In almost all cases, at least in their recent past, they have not been loved nor have they felt the security of a loving home.  Our goal is to ensure these fine animals get healthy, never again face life in a dangerous situation and, instead, live in a safe, loving and secure “forever” home!  Until that time, our dogs live in a loving, foster home.  MSRH does not operate a shelter.

There are three main ways you can get involved:

Adopt a Schnauzer
We’re dedicated to adopting out our rescued Schnauzers and are thus committed to responding to your adoption application in a timely fashion.  If you have completed your application and you haven’t heard from anyone within 48 hours, please email us at adoptionform@msrh.org or call us at 713-513-7811.

Make a Donation
When one of our rescues is adopted, MSRH charges an adoption fee.  This fee typically covers basic medical expenses, including spay / neutering, to ensure the dog is healthy and ready to join a forever home.  However, some of the dogs we rescue have problems such as heartworms, infections, skin problems, or even more serious issues that must be addressed before the dog can be adopted.  In these cases, the standard adoption fee doesn’t come close to covering the veterinarian services.  MSRH works with some outstanding, and very carring & generous, veterinarians.  But with a growing number of dogs requiring significant medical care, we’ve incurred significant veterinarian debt.

Volunteer with MSRH
We are always in need of kind-hearted people willing to lend their time, talents and/or treasures:  Foster Families, Groomers, Transportation, Adoption Application Screening, Home Visits and, of course, Monetary Donations.  If you can help, email us at volunteer@msrh.org

This post pulls on my heart strings. I will seriously consider fostering in the future.
