Photo of the Week: University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Imploded
What you see there is Candace Garcia’s shot of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center being imploded at 11:15 a.m. on January 8th, 2012. The building was originally built by Prudential Insurance Company in 1952. They then sold the 20 story structure to M. D. Anderson in 1974.
How’s that for history? A mere 60 years in the past is all it takes in Houston, to be deemed historical. Dig just 130 years before that and you precede the Allen Brothers. Good luck finding much that exists from that period. Sometimes I get impatient with this great city. It’s easy to envy other U.S. cities with there 300 and 400 year spans. All we can do is hold on tight to the little pieces we have now. Eventually they’ll add up.
