Silver Smith Boutique: Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize…
In 4 Words: Flirty, Trendy, Accessories, Carpe-diem-shopping
I don’t know if it is just me – or maybe other lady Loopsters have this problem too: Finding accessories. I always see other gals with the cutest necklaces or bangles or scarves or rings, but when I attempt to shop for these things, I come up empty handed. Maybe it’s the grass-is-greener effect, and everything just looks cute because someone else has it – but whatever the reason, I’ve found a solution: Silver Smith Boutique.
This boutique is chock-full of playful, funky and trendy accessories. With their wares in the lower to medium price range, it’s a great place to shop when you need a cool belt, eclectic statement ring, chunky necklace, fun chandelier earrings, leggings or even a scarf for the tail end of this winter season. With six or seven tables and dressers full of accessories, there were oodles of fun things to choose from. And Loopsters, we all know that the right accessories can turn even the plainest t-shirt and jeans into a compliment-inducing ensemble. (And really, who doesn’t love that?)
There is also a small stock of purses and shoes at Silver Smith. In fact, my shopping companion snagged herself a cute silver and black drawstring handbag for $42, a respectable price after the 20% off coupon was applied.(see tip #1) The shoe selection left something to be desired, but in talking with the owner, they may not be carrying them too much longer.
Within a few minutes of entering the store, we were approached by owner, Tammy Smith-Lees. It’s nice that she appears to take a personal interest in her customers and makes a point to make you feel comfortable in her boutique. After chatting with her, I learned that Silver Smith Boutique has been open for business for 14 years. The boutique began as a marketplace for her homemade jewelry, and you can still find a few Tammy’s original pieces in the store, like a few funky rings at the register counter. However, lately she’s been too busy with major milestones in her social life (congrats Tammy!) and starting to design her own clothing line that jewelry making has been put to the back burner for now. Over the years, her store has grown to include not only jewelry but accessories, ladies apparel and now even a small collection of menswear.
Silver Smith is what I like to call “carpe diem shopping,” which I define as current trends of the season that you must have now – and possibly even to wear this weekend – with the understanding that these purchases will not be a staple in your long-term wardrobe. The boutique is filled with cute tops, vests, jackets, skirts, and dresses that follow the trends of the moment. My purchase of the day was a cute, off-the-shoulder grey and cream geometric print asymmetric top for about $40. (Check out the 4th pic in Silver Smith’s photos on facebook) These fashions are not made of the highest quality fabrics, and some of the pricing is a little higher than it should be, but it’s easy to offset this fact by a desire to dress in unique and trendy apparel. With typically only one or two of each item in the store, you should not find others wearing your purchase, which is a plus. With a little time spent perusing, there are a number of good buys to find here.
