Sprinkles Cupcakes: Give in to Your Cravings

A ‘Now Open’ sign isn’t necessary at the newly opened Sprinkles cupcakes in Highland Village. The line at the Grand Opening stretched all the way down the sidewalk, even though the heat index was well over 100 degrees. Thankfully, one of the friendly sprinkles employees was handing out pocket size menus which consist of a graphic version of the offerings that change daily. Once I decided on a cupcake choice, the menu doubled as a fan. Far from its original location in Beverly Hills, the newest Houston location fits in nicely amongst the other high end boutiques and palm trees.

As far as a minimalist cupcake boutique, the store is what you would expect. You walk in to a large counter displaying the daily selection behind a large sheet of glass. They have a handful of seats for you to sit and enjoy the yummy goodness. Sprinkles has obviously perfected the business of selling cupcakes, offering 12 unique cupcakes every day, which are served in their signature brown box. For an additional charge, they will also put it in a gift box, all tied up with a ribbon. A cupcake is going to run you $3.25 a pop, unless you opt for a dozen or more and then the price goes down to $3 each. You can wash it all down with your choice of coffee, tea, bottled water or a selection of other bottled beverages…they even have Dublin Dr. Pepper (as if a vanilla milk chocolate cupcake wasn’t enough.) If you are a true cupcake aficionado you can buy the cap, t-shirt and a onesie for junior. They also offer doggie cupcakes that are convieniently packaged in a doggie bag (they even sell a t-shirt for fido).

The actual cupcakes are top notch. Moist cake with the perfect cake to icing ratio! I tried the vanilla milk chocolate which has become my favorite at one of the other local cupcake eateries that I have been known to CRAVE. The sprinkles rendition isn’t quite as sweet or rich as some of its competitors, but I will be returning for seconds in the not so distant future. I have heard that the pumpkin and ginger lemon are a must!

The menu changes daily and you can check out what’s available online. Overall, this place lives up to its reputation. Next time you are in the market for a frosted hand-held treat, they are definitely worth a try.

Sounds like they were worth the wait in the heat–hope they melted in your mouth, not in your hand–
