Staff Notes and Photos: The Welcome Mat

I love the fact that a new D’Amico’s has popped up in the Heights. It has been my family’s favorite spots to eat when they venture into the big city (well, at least until they discovered Kenny and Ziggy’s). But we live in a world where not just the customers, but the restaurants play favorites.

Two weeks removed from learning that Alison Cook, food critic-xtrodinaire, is banned from the new Liberty Kitchen, we find D’Amico’s tugging at mommy’s apron looking for a little favor. “Alison Cook ♥ always welcome here!” read the sandwich board outside. I guess the daily special was a filet of fawning topped with lumped pander.

I see nothing wrong with having a counterpoint to a rude obnoxious sign at another establishment.

This is why food critics had to hide for so long. People are jerks.

I have no doubt she already introduced herself to the D’Amico’s crew, back in the days when critic anonymity was important.
