Staff Notes and Photos: What the…?

Leading up to the much ballyhooed #1 vs. #2 match-up of LSU and Bama, I was sitting with Tea Jones at Royal Oak. Suddenly, Gary Busey was yelling at me to buy a KIA. What in the…?

Now, that’s not the exact commercial that I saw. This is the one that Houston Press’ Abby Koenig mentioned a little while ago. What’s more surprising about this endorsement is that it had enough legs to warrant a second iteration. Actually, there are about a dozen KIA commercials starring everyone’s wish for a crazy uncle.

There’s only one real question to ask: What other bottomed-out or unlikely celebrity would be more surprising yet satisfying to see shilling local goods? Mel Gibson for Katz’ Deli? Rip Torn for the resurrection of Harold’s in the Heights? Danzig for Souper Salad? Courtney Love for Blue Mambo?

Mel Gibson for Katz Deli would be brilliantly ironic. Nice! And thanks for the shout out.
