Good Dog Hot Dogs: Eat Well and Live Long

In 5 Words: Sriracha, Texas-Made, Encased, Dogs, Sunshine

Houston is really getting into the street food game lately. Every week seems to host a new truck opening: some good, some not so good, and some that are amazing. With a little skepticism about the newest food truck to open, this weekend’s experience not only set me straight, it made me overjoyed to have this rolling purveyor of encased meats in our fine city. I’m talking about Good Dog Hot Dogs.

Hubcap Grill and Beer Garden – An Update

I had a chance to meet up with burger extraordinaire, Ricky Craig, to talk about his newest venture, Hubcap Grill and Beer Garden. Set to open sometime in mid-April (sooner if antagonists stop calling 311), it’s what Ricky calls his “playground”. I always get the sense that Ricky is really passionate about his craft and this discussion was no different. It’s rare to hear someone so energized about what they do. This is also Craig’s chance to get out of the kitchen a little and relax, and there isn’t anything wrong with that, we think he’s earned a little play time.

Moon Tower Inn: Beers and Brats with a Backyard Vibe

In 5 Words: bratwurst, beer, friends, patio, delicious

Is there a better way to spend your Saturday evening than hanging out on a friend’s back patio? With a few beers and brats on the grill the simple answer is no, there’s not a whole lot better to do on a Saturday. The sad part is, I live in an apartment with no backyard, leading me to find the next best thing, Moon Tower Inn.

Bernie’s Burger Bus – An After School Special

Sometimes I question whether or not I have gone overboard on the whole artery-clogging burger scene in Houston. Then I remember how tasty hamburgers and their accompanying sides really are and all doubts go away. Either that or I mention my doubts to someone and they slap me back into reality. A friend of mine heard about Bernie’s Burger Bus through Twitter and passed along the details. No need to tell y’all, I was interested; very interested.

The Week That Was 10.10.10

With The Loop Scoop Superman flying faster than a speeding bullet over to Austin to check out some little music festival they have up there, that left the rest of us to write up The Week That Was. Unfortunately, we’re all pretty boring. Nothing exciting to see here. No week long benders, no sauced up karaoke nights, no all you can eat steak nights. Sorry Houston. Have no fear, though, Paul will be back next week and so will his crazy adventures through H-town. In the meantime, you’ll just have to make do with us.

A Visit to Julia’s Bistro

I’ve passed Julia’s Bistro multiple times in my visits to different Midtown destinations. Each time I said to myself, “I wonder if it’s any good?”. Reviews on Yelp have been so-so, but then again, it is Yelp. However, thanks to a TravelZoo promotion I finally took the initiative to try it out and form my own opinion.

Hubcap Grill: More Meat Sweats

The feeling of deja vu is coming over me. I think we’ve had this discussion once or maybe twice before. Burgers are a touchy subject, but we here at The Loop Scoop are trying to break through the bull (or is it heifer in this situation?) by checking out a bunch of Houston burger joints.
