Yia-Yia’s Roadster Grill: The Gyro Hero

In 6 Words: Greek, American, Tzatziki, Diners, Drive-Ins, Dives

Sunday afternoons are meant for convertible drives down the pacific coast highway, shady hammock naps or barefoot strolls on the beach. Unfortunately, often times real life gets in the way and Sunday afternoons are spent running errands, digging gardens or tarring roofs. This past Sunday, with our refrigerator barren, a much needed trip to the grocery store took the place of any Sunday Funday activities we might have preferred.

Ellie’s Kitchen: Feast on Greek Throughout the Week

In 7 Words: Love, άνεση, Lamb, Butterscotch, Ellie, Bright, Pies

I have driven by Ellie’s Kitchen a time or two whilst visiting my family in Friendswood. That which kills cats—curiosity, not mean little Timmy down the street—set in after the first time. When I find out they create incredible Mediterranean cuisine, I make the effort.

Cafe Byzantio: Spanning the Continental Divide

In 6 Words: Greek, Byzantium, Gyros, καφές, Belly-Dancing, ζεστασιά

A favorite trivia question of mine has always been, “what metropolis is the only to span two continents?” I don’t want to ruin it by giving the answer right away, but I suppose a good hint would be that I think of that trivial bit of information as I walk up to Cafe Byzantio. A Greek coffee shop/bar/restaurant that seemingly spans the border between Montrose and Midtown, it follows in the footsteps of it’s namesake (now twice removed).
