The Procrastinator’s Plan 8.26.10

Schools around Houston have started back up, which only serves to remind me of one thing. I’m not a kid anymore. While I tried to hold onto my youth as long as I could by staying in college for a decade, eventually all good things must come to an end. Oh well, I had a good run and, honestly, I don’t know if I’d have the stomach to do it all over again. Maybe in another life. Jerry probably said it best when he sang “what a long, strange trip it’s been,” but I like where I’ve ended up. Now if I could just figure out the pause button on this thing.

The Procrastinator’s Plan 8.19.10

It’s always interesting to see the world through the eyes of a child. With my cousin in town, I got to see what an 11 year old found interesting about Houston. It wasn’t the same things that you or I would, which is a little surprising, as most people accuse me of acting like I’m 11. Besides complaining about the heat, he was more interested in all of the chain restaurants that call Houston home than the any of the unique Houston hotspots. Oh well, at least there were a few things we both could enjoy: Dave and Busters and Marble Slab. Ooh, Ice Cream.

The Procrastinator’s Plan 3.7.10

This weekend showcases one of the events in Houston that I look forward to every year. The Orange Show’s Art Car Parade is internationally known (to rock the microphone) and is one of the uniquely Houston events that makes this city so great. Austin might try to be weird, but Houston just is and all you have to do is look at the cars that will be making their way down Allen Parkway to get a taste of it.

One of these days, I’m going to stop procrastinating and get busy making a Loop Scoop Car. Now if only I had taken shop in high school instead of Home Ec. The Art Car Parade is one of the coolest events in the country. Austin, can you top that? I think not… and I don’t even want to hear anything about SXSW, because they sold out to the man a long time ago! Not to mention the fact that they denied the procrastinator’s plea for a press pass… as if!

The Procrastinator’s Plan 4.23.10

So I was driving home last night and I realized that RSVP713 had invaded my neighborhood with a billboard. I saw the prominent piece of metropolitan art just before the Shepherd/Durham exit on I-10 and instantly knew the best way to promote The Loop Scoop. I immediately called my mom to see if I could dress her up and put her on a billboard, but she wasn’t having it. Maybe I can get my grandma to do it.

House of Blues: Party With the People

In 6 Words: Live, General, Wailers, Exclusive, Pavilions, Foundation

With a palpable hankering to see a live show, I stumbled upon a pair of free tickets to see The Wailers at the House of Blues on a Saturday night in January. Being a fan of both Reggae and the HOB venue, I opted to check out Bob Marley’s band over locals The Ton Tons, who were playing at Walter’s on Washington. Tough decision (those kids are really good), but I was not disappointed, as my gratis tickets granted admission into the exclusive, members-only Foundation Room, which I’ve been hearing about through various people.

The Procrastinator’s Plan 2.19.10

The weekend is here once again… And, Once again, you don’t have plans. That’s ok, it happens to the best of us. In fact, we haven’t quite made up our minds. Sure, I will be headed to the Slaid Cleaves show tonight, but what will the rest of our staff do? Only you can decide. In fact, you should view The Procrastinator’s Plan as a sort of “Choose Their Adventure.” You have the power to send Aaron to some place other than Petrol Station. Stephan will listen to your requests to take a photo safari in the warehouse district. I even think that Paul would honor your suggestion of dressing up in a chicken suit and cruising Market Square on Sunday afternoon… Not that he’s into that sort of thing. Of course you could always help out Danielle, Nikki, Richard, Emily, and Afrodet. Your wish is their command (maybe).
