Happy American Craft Beer Week! I hope everyone takes this opportunity to get out there and enjoy their favorite American craft beer! Remember, now that Anheuser Busch is owned by Belgian company inBev, Miller by South African Brewing and Coors by Canadian based Molson, craft beer is officially the only real “American” beer. Think about that when you’re buying beer for your Fourth of July BBQ!

We here at the Loop Scoop have defined our cause as celebrating what’s great about Houston, but sometimes things happen in the Bayou City that just stink. Like poop. This week included one such event as the Texans’ Defensive Rookie of the Year, Brian Cushing, was suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season for violating the leagues substance abuse policies. He claims that he didn’t take PED’s, but so do all of the athletes who test positive

Some people shouldn’t be allowed a public forum. When the founding fathers came up with this country it wasn’t Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of ReTweetiness. Oh, you don’t think they would have been able to see the future of social media? I beg to differ. I’ve met Ben Franklin on more than one occasion. Dude has a time machine.
All too often, people have used their connectedness to take jabs at others. It has been happening for centuries upon centuries. From Aristophanes taking shots at Socrates in The Clouds to petty twit-fights between one-time friends. I’ve been guilty of it on more than one occasion. I took to twitter when my ex-landlord “stole” half of my deposit and once decided it would be downright hilarious to make a cheap joke at the expense of an ex-lover in the name of blogeriffic satirical sports humor.

This weekend showcases one of the events in Houston that I look forward to every year. The Orange Show’s Art Car Parade is internationally known (to rock the microphone) and is one of the uniquely Houston events that makes this city so great. Austin might try to be weird, but Houston just is and all you have to do is look at the cars that will be making their way down Allen Parkway to get a taste of it.
One of these days, I’m going to stop procrastinating and get busy making a Loop Scoop Car. Now if only I had taken shop in high school instead of Home Ec. The Art Car Parade is one of the coolest events in the country. Austin, can you top that? I think not… and I don’t even want to hear anything about SXSW, because they sold out to the man a long time ago! Not to mention the fact that they denied the procrastinator’s plea for a press pass… as if!
