Drinking Made Easy: Houston

Maybe it’s because I’m infantile or maybe it’s because I just love to drink, but I’ve stumbled onto a new show “Drinking Made Easy” with Zane Lamprey. Basically, the premise of the show is a few friends get together, drive an RV around the country and find interesting bars, breweries and distilleries in various cities. As I went back and checked out the show, lo and behold, they had been to Texas. A Dallas show (filmed all over the metroplex) and Austin, but no Houston. As a matter of fact, the episode guide for Dallas mentioned it being the 9th largest city. Uh… yeah, so? Houston’s fourth in the country and the largest in Texas. How could they just bypass us like that? Could it be because Mark Cuban owns their network? Isn’t he satisfied enough with torpedoing the Rockets every year, that he can allow Houston to have a piece of the action?

The Look Ahead: Beer Dinner, Arts Market, Mutt Strut and Hayes Carll

I started my weekend last night at The Walkmen show. The grogginess doesn’t abate. This is what I get for hanging out with Sarah and her posse of bad influences. Finishing off the night with a tall glass of vodka didn’t seem like a good idea at the time and has proven an even worse idea now.

It’s time to sober up again, though. Why? Because it’s almost time to start drinking again. There are plenty of reasons to throw back a tall one or six. And that’s not only at the event that is purely about beer. Yes, as with all fruitful weekends there is an event that revolves around craft brew.

If we need to know about an upcoming event leave a comment, tweet at us (@TheLoopScoop) or email us at contact@theloopscoop.com.

Of Mead and Men: American Craft Beer Week

Happy American Craft Beer Week! I hope everyone takes this opportunity to get out there and enjoy their favorite American craft beer! Remember, now that Anheuser Busch is owned by Belgian company inBev, Miller by South African Brewing and Coors by Canadian based Molson, craft beer is officially the only real “American” beer. Think about that when you’re buying beer for your Fourth of July BBQ!

The Procrastinator’s Plan 5.14.10

We here at the Loop Scoop have defined our cause as celebrating what’s great about Houston, but sometimes things happen in the Bayou City that just stink. Like poop. This week included one such event as the Texans’ Defensive Rookie of the Year, Brian Cushing, was suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season for violating the leagues substance abuse policies. He claims that he didn’t take PED’s, but so do all of the athletes who test positive
