Rather than have fun at Monday’s expense like all other weeks’ beginnings, lets welcome him with open arms. Sad about Team USA’s loss to Japan? Burry your head in your work or in these events we’ve wrangled in. Either way, USA’s loss is your win?

Certain songs have a way of telling a story, that you’d swear was about someone you knew or some place you’d been—hell, sometimes it can feel like something you might’ve experienced yourself. For some of us here at the Loop Scoop, the songs of Mr. Robert Earl Keen portray some of the most vivid tales. No, none of us have an Aunt Kay that talks all about AA or a landlord willing to take the rent late in return for digging his skinny cows out of the mud out at his ol’ ranch, but there’s something in his everyman approach that speaks to us, just the same.

In 8 Words: Wood, Sculpture, Tomato, Random, Indulgence, Fresh, Golden, Cheese
Sometimes after a night of indulgence and poor decision making, the only cure is to simply keep those behaviors on board for another day or so. Sure generously partaking in delicious scotch and craft beer have their consequences the next morning. Or do they? If we never leave the crazy ship to venture back to reality, who’s to say that reality actually exists? Let’s say we trade those vices mentioned above for the universal crowd pleaser: Pizza. With The Loop Scoop Superman flying faster than a speeding bullet over to Austin to check out some little music festival they have up there, that left the rest of us to write up The Week That Was. Unfortunately, we’re all pretty boring. Nothing exciting to see here. No week long benders, no sauced up karaoke nights, no all you can eat steak nights. Sorry Houston. Have no fear, though, Paul will be back next week and so will his crazy adventures through H-town. In the meantime, you’ll just have to make do with us.

This week I have to go out of town. Honestly, I haven’t been out of town since a weekend trip to Chicago back in the spring. Maybe I’ve become a little bit too comfortable in my Houston life, but for some reason I’m not very excited about being in DC for the next three days. On top of that, I get home, stay two nights and then enter the foreign wasteland that is Austin. Austin City Limits is a fantastic time. I’m looking forward to it. Also, I’m looking forward to the festival organizer comparing ACL to Summer Fest. Wait, that will never happen. That’s just what we Houstonians do with our inferiority complex

As you’ve read these last few weeks, The Loop Scoop’s been hunting down some of Houston’s street art. What started out as a fascination, has now become an obsession. An obsession with these often overlooked and ignored creations has had Paul scouring the walls of this fair city. In the process he managed to capture this shot, where in the high art of Houston’s architecture compliments the low art of Coolidge.
