The Look Ahead: Backpack to School, Bob Schneider, Othello and White Linen Night

Who has two thumbs and a case of the Wednesdays?

I think the heat has finally gotten the best of Houston (and Texas for that matter). It’s sucking the life out of me, I tell you. Let’s see if there are any indoor-friendly events on the horizon…

Backpack to School Drive at Saint Arnold Brewing Company

Where: East Downtown-ish [2000 Lyons Ave., 77020]
When: Wednesday, August 3rd | 6:00PM to 8:00PM
How much: Bring a new or gently used backpack
Scoop’d from: Richard

Have fun and do good. On Wednesday, August 3, we are teaming up with our State Representative Jessica Farrar to host a Back to School drive for needy families at the brewery. Cost of admission is a new or gently used children’s backpack and some school supplies. Then hang out and enjoy some tasty refreshing beverages. Consider them the fruits of your labor.

Bring one of these items with your backpack:
8 pack of markers
24 pack of crayons
Large pack of pencils
Large package of spiral notebooks

Bob Schneider (Two Shows!) at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck

Where: Upper Kirby [2000 Lyons Ave., 77020]
When: Thursday, August 4th | Doors at 7:00PM and 9:30PM
How much: $25 in Advance; $27 at the Door
Scoop’d from: Richard

Which do you want: The early show at 7:00PM or the late one at 9:30PM? You can’t go wrong. Houston Schneider fans know what I’m talking about. He has a rabid base… In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the shows sell out quickly. Who knows, you may already be too late to the party. Hurry up and grab a ticket while you can.

Othello at Miller Outdoor for the Houston Shakespeare Festival

Where: Museum District – Hermann Park [6000 Hermann Park Dr., 77030]
When: Saturday, August 6th |8:30PM to 11:00PM
How much: Free
Scoop’d from: Richard

“Iago, one of the theatre’s greatest villains, draws the outsider General Othello, his beautiful wife Desdemona, the young lieutenant Cassio, into a whirlpool of jealousy.

This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (4 per person over age 16 while they last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30am-1pm. If tickets remain at 1pm, the box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute the remaining tickets. As always, open seating on the hill.”

White Linen Night in the Heights

Where: All over the Heights
When: Saturday, August 6th | Nighttime
How much: Free
Scoop’d from: Richard

Time to pull that linen shirt or pair of pants from the closet. This weekend, specifically on Saturday, traipse around the Heights checking out all of the shops, restaurants and activities that will be available. We went for the first time last year and had an amazing time. Check out the pre-party at Barrio Antiguo and Fresh Arts Coalition’s afterparty at Fitzgerald’s.
