The Look Ahead: Date Auction, Wheel Work, Homespun, Chrome and Independencia
Tuesday is the new Monday. Get used to it. You know what’s going to help? Having something to plan for later in the week. Get it? Got it. Well, get to it, Loopsters…

We covered this event last year and had a great time doing it. In fact, we almost won a date for ourselves (and a double-date at that!). Lo and behold, someone out bid us. Maybe we’ll have better luck this year. Last year’s crop was nothing to sneeze at. There are some new names on the list this year, so have your wallet ready to raise money for a good cause. Not to mention, that cause is in need especially this year with this record-breaking drought we’re experiencing.
Miniature Tigers are getting ready to release a new album and their Houston openers, The Wheel Workers, are prepping to send Unite nationally. You can get a taste of the Tigers’ third studio release already or just wait patiently for the day to pass before you can catch all the music in person.
Homespun Houston Fundraiser for American Red Cross (Central Texas)
From the site — “On September 7, an artist “Call to Action” was announced on Homespun’s blog. The response from the artist community was tremendous. Since that time, 23 artists and 1 band have agreed to donate portions of their sales for one day in order to assist The American Red Cross of Central Texas in their efforts to help victims of the wildfires. Chromeo w/ Mayer Hawthorne at House of Blues
The last time we came across Chromeo, they were dazzling us on the main stage at Free Press Summer Fest. Not so much has changed since then. This time, the more intimate House of Blues will provide the venue for the Canadian rockers. As an added bonus, Mayer Hawthorne and The County — one of Paul’s favorites from Austin City Limits last year — will be opening the night. If you’re in town, don’t miss this show.
Los Benders — Viva La Independencia TX Tour
At the Sideshow Tramps release party, we were told two separate times that we couldn’t miss a concert coming up this Saturday. In fact, it was by Dem Damn Dames (above) supporters on both occasions. We feel compelled to tell you all about it. This weekend, Los Benders’ tour will take them through Houston. They’ll be a long way from home (Monterrey, Mexico), but they’ve invited their friends DJ Big E, Dem Damn Dames Burlesque and Rockin’ Lloyd Tripp to keep them company on Saturday at Continental Club.
