The Look Ahead: Dropkick Murphys, Horseshoe, Ghost Wolves, FPH 9th Anniversary, Danneurysm, Radiohead, Shearwater, Flogging Molly, Kim Lenz and Electric Primadonnas
We’ve got another exciting week of live music ahead. A bunch of shows are coming into town hot and heavy. Just looking for a partner. Some eyes and ears to make love to. Stop being so conservative. Offer yourself up to some new music. It will be worth it.

Dropkick Murphys w/ Frank Turner at House of Blues

Is it too early to get geared up for St. Patty’s Day? Heck no. Especially with the Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly (see below) on the docket this week.
The Rodeo Sucks: Wednesday Night Concert Series

–
Where: West University [2349 Bissonnet St., 77005]
When: Wednesday, February 29th | 7:00PM until 10:00PM
How much: Not Sure — Probably $5-$7
We can’t argue with the logic behind this concert series at Volcano. The rodeo has its charm, but sometimes it’s a hard beast to conquer. We’d rather have an intimate moment or two with some of the bands that will be playing on Wednesday nights. Your schedule is below:
2/29 Horseshoe
3/7 Mike Stinson
3/14 Stone River Boys
3/21 Brennen Leigh

The Ghost Wolves at Continental Club

How much: Not Sure
Remember, if you get there early, you’ll find Beetle playing for free. After the cover show, you’re going to be treated to the stripped down sound of The Ghost Wolves. It’s time to test your musical constitution. Check out that video we just linked to. Yeah, that one.

I’ve played enough Rock Band to know that Nirvana will live on forever. It’s time to stop living vicariously through the avatar on your TV and watch some real pros pay tribute to our godfathers of grunge. Featuring members of Grandfather Child, Black Congress and Darkest Hour, Danneurysm is set to melt your face off with a full night of Nirvana covers. Facebook Event
Radiohead at Toyota Center
-
Where: Dowtown – Toyota Center [1510 Polk St., 77002]
When: Saturday, March 3rd | Doors Open at 6:30PM
How much: A Bajillion Dollars (estimated)
You either have your tickets or you don’t. You probably don’t. Richard is willing to sneak you into the arena… for a price. He knows the A/C ducts of Toyota Center better than he knows his wife. If you’re worried that Richard’s methods aren’t legitmate, you can always check StubHub.

Shearwater w/ Dana Falconberry + Marmalakes at Fitzgerald’s
–
Where: The Heights - Fitzgerald’s – Upstairs [2706 White Oak Dr., 77007]
When: Saturday, March 3rd| Doors at 8:00PM
How much: $14 in Advance; $16 at the Door
When I went to the Buxton album release party a few weeks ago, the big surprise for me was Marmalakes. I couldn’t leave that night without buying up both of their EPs. Marmalakes will be opening up for some of their Austin, TX compatriots on Saturday night. It will only add to the fun. Shearwater got a lot of buzz from The Golden Archipelago in 2010, and they’re already back with a new album. Animal Joy hit the market on Valentine’s Day. [Insert joke about falling in love]

Sailor Jerry Presents the Green 17 Tour at House of Blues
Flogging Molly w/ Devil Makes Three + Sean Wheeler and Zander Schloss
–
Where: Downtown – House of Blues [1204 Caroline St., 77002]
When: Wednesday, February 29th | 7:00PM until 10:00PM
How much: $32.00 or $39.50
We were hoping for a big brouhaha for Leap Year Day (or whatever February 29th is known as). Flogging Molly fits that bill. We’re pretty excited that The Devil Makes Three is making such a quick return to Houston as well. Two visits in three months? Let’s keep this schedule working.

Kim Lenz at Continental Club
–
Where: The Continental Club – The Fourth Ward [3700 Main St., 77002]
When: Sunday, March 4th | 10:00PM
How much: $10 (Only 21+)
I’m a zombie zombie zombie for her love. It looks like I will probably have to contend with a contingent of rockabilly diehards for her affections on Sunday night. Los Angeles is lending Lenz’s services to Houston this weekend, so you better make the most of it. If you’re on the fence, check out the video for “Zombie for Your Love” to help make up your mind.

The Electric Primadonnas w/ The Escatones, Art Institute and Poor Pilate at Fitzgerald’s
–
Where: The Heights - Fitzgerald’s – Upstairs [2706 White Oak Dr., 77007]
When: Sunday, March 4th| Doors at 8:00PM
How much: FREE! (for those over 21)
We’re not going to tell you again: Poor Pilate needs to be on your list of Houston-must-see-music. Get a show or two under your belt before they leave us forever to join the national scene. On Saturday they will be playing along with three Houston bands and the Oklahoma City headliner, The Electric Primadonnas. They ain’t nothing to sniffle at… or something.
