The Look Ahead: DUAL, Fixies, Dynamo and Globetrotters

We’re dissolving two of our favorite columns, Your Regular Scoop of Houston and Procrastinator’s Plan, and giving them a new look this year. Gone is the single serving of events in Houston. Here is a five-times-a-week battery of things to do. We will publish a few events every morning. If we’ve missed something let us know with an email to contact@theloopscoop.com or tweet at us @TheLoopScoop.

Houston Fixed Gear Grand Opening

Where: Montrose [2309 Dunlavy St., 77006]
When: Friday, January 28th from 7:00PM to 10:00PM
How much: Free
Scoop’d from: Mind your own business

Finish this word association – Rednecks : Pick-Ups :: Hipsters : ________. If you answered “Fixies” you’re correct. Just north of Fairview on Dunlavy, Houston Fixed Gear will be opening its doors grandly tonight. We’ll probably be there. Artwork by DUAL will be there. Fixed gear bikes will be there. You should be there too.

Harlem Globetrotters at Toyota Center

Where: Downtown [1510 Polk St., 77002]
When: Saturday, January 29th at 2:00PM and 7:00PM
How much: $22 to a whopping $152
Scoop’d from: HoustonToyotaCenter.com

We can hear it. It’s the pangs of Sweet Georgia Brown rumbling around in the heads of Houstonians. That’s because the Harlem Globetrotters are coming to town with their pranks, antics and basketball prowess. I just can’t wait to see the bucket of confetti trick!

Dynamo Stadium Groundbreaking Ceremony

Where: Downtown [Between Texas, Dowling, Hutchins and Walker Streets]
When: Saturday, January 29th (not really sure the time)
How much: Probably Free
Scoop’d from: Swamplot

The Dynamo will finally be leaving the confines of UH’s Robertson Stadium (and so will the Cougars, eventually, but that’s another story altogether). The organization and its sponsors will be breaking ground on Saturday for the stadium that will play host to our MLS team, TSU football and possibly a few concerts. Check out Swamplot’s coverage of the entire venture.
