The Look Ahead: Magical Thinking, Weah’s Works and National Pies

We’re dissolving two of our favorite columns, Your Regular Scoop of Houston and Procrastinator’s Plan, and giving them a new look this year. Gone is the single serving of events in Houston. Here is a five-times-a-week battery of things to do. We will publish a few events every morning. If we’ve missed something let us know with an email to contact@theloopscoop.com or tweet at us @TheLoopScoop.

Daniel Anuilu Art Show at Dionysus

Where: Midtown/Montrose [3201 Louisiana St., 77006]
When: Friday, January 21st, 7PM to 10PM
How much: Free, but by some work
Scoop’d from: Press Release

Street art: It’s not just for the street anymore. Daniel Anguilu, also known as Weah, will be unveiling some of his new work at Dionysus Salon tonight, January 21st. His complex geometric patterns caught our eyes when we first started hunting down street art. You can see quite a bit in our original Photo Essay… But don’t take our word for it. Stop by Dionysus to support Weah tonight.

The Year of Magical Thinking at Main Street Theater

Where: West University [2540 Rice Blvd., 77005]
When: Saturday, January 22nd through Sunday, January 13th
How much: Previews are $10 (22nd, 23rd and 25th); $26 – $40 all other dates
Scoop’d from: Press Release

We haven’t been by Main Street Theater since the double feature of A Number and Machinal, but we’ve been wanting to get back into the theatrical spirit lately. Methinks that The Year of Magical Thinking will be just the ticket. Joan Didion’s adaptation of her own memoir is a one-woman-show that officially opens on January 27th. Catch one of the previews this weekend for only ten dollars.

2011 National Pie Day Celebration

Where: Houston Heights [339 West 19th Street, 77008]
When: Sunday, January 23rd, 12PM to 3PM
How much: Free (plus cost of pie)
Scoop’d from: ohmypocketpies.com

What’s better than eating pie? That’s an easy question to answer: Eating pie on a day of national celebration.
