The Look Ahead: Memorial Day Weekend!

What are your Memorial Day weekend plans? Here are some of the events that we came up with over the course of the week, but it’s not nearly enough. We need your help. Tell us what to do in the comments. We’ll try to add it to this list as the day goes on.

Mudbugs and Guitars (Supporting Heroes of Holden)
-

Where: Pasadena Convention Center [7902 Fairmont Pkwy., 77507]
When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 27th, 28th and 29th
How Much: $40 All Weekend | $10 Friday and Sunday | $25 Saturday
Scoop’d From: Richard

We can think of very few things that would trump an all-weekend crawfish and Texas music festival. At the moment, we can’t think of a better way to spend our weekend, even if it’s in Pasadena. All of the proceeds go to help out a number of great causes including Heroes of Holden, Fighting Blindness and a Mudbug Scholarship Fund.

Memorial Day Eve Gumbo Cook-Off at Volcano
-

Where: West University [2349 Bissonnet St., 77005]
When: Sunday, May 29th | ALL DAY
How Much: $10
Scoop’d From: Paul

Seriously, you all must be at Under the Volcano on Sunday. For the third straight year I will be helping (read: drinking heavily) out a team of gumbo cook-offers. Friends, family, fourth-cousins… everyone needs to come out and support – and, most importantly, vote for “our” gumbo. The event is always a blast and benefits a great cause WELLSPRINGS. Enjoy some the gumbo by more than a dozen entrants and catch some live music from some zydeco bands rolling through town.

The Pleasants w/ The Wheel Workers and Dearspeak at The Mink
-

Where: The Mink [3718 Main St., 77002]
When: Saturday, May 28th | 9:00PM
How Much: 21+ $6 | Under $10
Scoop’d From: Paul

Listen to a song here by The Pleasants. I dare you to say it sounds anything but what their name implies. We’re most well acquainted with The Wheel Workers at The Loop Scoop, so that’s who we’d be going to see. It’s going to be a busy three-day weekend ahead. There’s always a place for live music though.
