The Look Ahead: Prince Paul, Buxton, Houston Texans and Tookie’s

Shake it off. It’s only a Monday. You’ll make it through, we promise. Plus, there’s a whole new season on the horizon… With the return of the NFL, Mondays become extra-palatable for us red-blooded American-types: Monday Night Football and  it comes to Houston tonight in all its preseason glory!

New York Jets at Houston Texans: Monday Night Football!

Where: Reliant Stadium [2 Reliant Park, 77054]
When: Monday, August 15th | 7:00PM
How much: $40 to $255
Scoop’d from: Who cares?! FOOBALL!!

It might be only the preseason, but Monday Night Football can still be considered an event (and it’s the only one we’ve got this year…). It’s the first national television for a boys in red, white and blue this season. The starters will only be playing a couple of series before getting subbed out. Pay attention early and enjoy the no-names late.

Tookie’s Grand Reopening

Where: Seabrook [1202 Bayport Blvd., Seabrook, TX 77586]
When: Tuesday, August 16th | 5:00PM
How much: Free + Squealer
Scoop’d from: @HouForkandCork

Your patience has finally run its course. Time to gear up for the reopening of a Houston-area landmark. That’s right, Tookie’s will finally be opening its doors after being sacrificed for our sins during Ike. The big event was supposed to happen today, but is pushed back until Tuesday… It might be pushed back again, so keep your eyes open.

Once things we were nostalgic about thinking them long gone are now coming back!

Prince Paul w/ G.wizz, La Katrin, Brandon West & The Black Hats

Where: Fitzgerald’s – The Heights [2706 White Oak Dr., 77007]
When: Saturday, August 20th | Door at 8:00PM
How much: Free! (or $7 for those under 21)
Scoop’d from: Paul

You might remember Prince Paul’s DJ set from Summer Fest a couple of years ago. You might not. Don’t blame yourself… But, really you should. Saturday you can make it up to the man, the legend, the producer. He’ll be putting on a free show at Fitzgerald’s upstairs with a handful of his friends.

Buxton w/ The Donkeys and Steve Reno

Where: Montrose [2010 Waugh Dr., 77006]
When: Sunday, August 21st | Doors at 9:00PM
How much: $8 at the door
Scoop’d from: Paul

Buxton is probably one of ten or so Houston bands you’ve probably heard about if you’re just a casual fan. The Ancient Cat Society has been having its fun lately as an auxiliary of the original band, but now Buxton is back to take the belt and the spotlight. Catch them on Sunday at Rudyard’s and turn that casual fandom into a full blown obsession.

Romney definitely will discharge his or her income taxes when the some other shills relieve theirs. Like claim a Nancy Pelosi.
