The Look Ahead: Sham Pooch, Twilight Boat Tours, DARKFIRE and VOODOO POP

The obvious thing going on this weekend is Free Press Summer Fest. If you haven’t read our Guide to Saturday and Guide to Sunday you’re missing out on our words of infinite wisdom. There is no authority on music… unless of course you declare yourself as such.

In that same vein, we are authorities on dog washing, boat touring and art exhibiting today. Read deeply for the details:

Sham Pooch a Dog Wash Benefitting S.N.A.P.

Where: Any Whole Foods Houston Location
When: Saturday, June 18th | 11:00AM to 2:00PM
How much: Donation of ANY amount
Scoop’d from: @WholeFoodsHOU

We’ll try not to get all Bob Barker on you today, but S.N.A.P. is doing good things in the spay and neuter business. This Saturday, you can stop by any of the Whole Foods locations in the Houston area to bring your pup for a thorough cleaning. All you need to do is donate a few bucks and you’ll help to give a dog or cat a better life.

Twilight Boat Tours along Buffalo Bayou

Where: Sabine Street Bridge along Buffalo Bayou
When: Saturday, June 18th | Between 5:00PM and 8:00PM
How much: $7 Adults | $5 Children
Scoop’d from: @ZiggysGoodFood

Nothing says “romantic” like a boat ride down the bayou while the sun starts to set. New to the schedule this year, Buffalo Bayou Partnership is adding these twilight tours. Each trip lasts 30 minutes. The twilight boat tours are first come, first serve, but for more information, call 713.752.0314 ext. 4 or e-mail jballard@buffalobayou.org.

DARKFIRE & VOODOO POP at Art League Houston

Where: Montrose [1953 Montrose Blvd., 77006]
When: Now through Friday, June 24th | Gallery open until 5PM every day
How much: Free
Scoop’d from: ArtLeagueHouston.org

In the main gallery, DARKFIRE presents a collaborative project by Canadian artist Sean Caulfield and Canadian writer Jonathan Hart. In the Project gallery, VOODOO POP features a playful collaborative exhibition by New York artist Trey Speegle and Houston-based artist Mary Hayslip. From what we can tell [header art by Sean Caufield; interior art by Trey Speegle] these two galleries couldn’t be exhibiting more different artwork. The Loop Scoop loves some good duplicity. But we’re here for publicity’s sake, so get out there and enjoy these exhibits while you can. Times a’wastin’.
