The Look Ahead: Sharks and Jets, Block Party and Dairymaids

We’re dissolving two of our favorite columns, Your Regular Scoop of Houston and Procrastinator’s Plan, and giving them a new look this year. Gone is the single serving of events in Houston. Here is a five-times-a-week battery of things to do. We will publish a few events every morning. If we’ve missed something let us know with an email to contact@theloopscoop.com or tweet at us @TheLoopScoop.

Main Street Block Party

Where: Midtown [Main Street and West Alabama]
When: Saturday, January 22nd from 1PM to 2AM
How much: $10 Now; $15 Day Of Party
Scoop’d from: Do713

There isn’t enough space here to list all the bands. All I know is that if you’re at the Main Street Party ambling from Continental Club to Big Top to The Mink to Natachees you’re going to run into a good performance at any given moment. It’s an all-day affair, so pace yourself, Loopsters. The last thing you want to do is burn yourself out by 7PM and miss the rest of the evening.

West Side Story at the Hobby Center for Performing Arts

Where: Downtown [800 Bagby St., 77002]
When: January 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd
How much: $26 to $64
Scoop’d from: My Email

We’ll call it a revival steeped in realism. The Broadway touring production of West Side Story has been in town for a week now, but only has six performances left before it skips town for Atlanta. I caught the production last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The beauty of the original songs and choreography is paired with a healthy dose of grit. These are gangs you’d actually be afraid of on the street. Ones that would rather throw a broken bottle in your face than a casual snap at you.

Texas Cheese and Beer Tasting at Saint Arnold

Where: Saint Arnold Brewery [2000 Lyons Ave., 77020]
When: Thursday, February 3rd from 6PM to 8PM
How much: $27 (Seating is Limited and Tickets Sell Fast)
Scoop’d from: My Email

Join Saint Arnold Brewing Company and Houston Dairymaids for a one of a kind event on February 3rd. There will be beer. There will be cheese. There will be pairings of beer and cheese. Artisan cheesemakers from Pure Luck Dairy and Sand Creek Farm will be on hand to walk you through the art of cheese.
