The Look Ahead: The Abyss, The Wheel Workers and Disturbance of Distance 2

Time to conquer the world. It’s Friday… Finally. “TGIFFF” is what we call it around here. Those aren’t unnecessary Fs, mind you. They are all quite indispensable. We’ve got a short list of things to do this weekend. Surely, we’re missing quite a few.

If we need to know about an upcoming event leave a comment, tweet at us (@TheLoopScoop) or email us at contact@theloopscoop.com.

The Wheel Workers Album Release Party at Walter’s

Where: Walter’s on Washington [4215 Washington Blvd., 77007]
When: Friday, February 18th
How much: $10 (which includes a free copy of the CD)
Scoop’d from: @TheWheelWorkers

You read our review of the new album Unite on Monday. Now’s your chance to catch The Wheel Workers live. Prove us wrong. Walk away from the show saying that the music isn’t “dreamy.” We can take the criticism… maybe. The opening bands are Houston group Featherface and DFW’s The Orbans. We will be there. Will you?

The Abyss (w/ Pop Pistol and Love Hate Affair) at Mango’s

Where: Montrose [403 Westheimer Rd., 77006]
When: Friday, February 18th; Doors open at 8:00PM
How much: Good question…
Scoop’d from: IndieHouston.org

Haunted. Distant. Those are probably the two words that I would use to describe the music of Houston band The Abyss off the cuff. They will be playing at Mango’s tonight (2/18/11) with San Antonio’s Pop Pistol and Austin’s Love Hate Affair. Price unknown, so we’ll just assume it’s free.

Disturbance of Distance 2 at Box 13 Art Space

Where: Lawndale/Wayside Area [6700 Harrisburg Blvd, 77011]
When: Saturday, February 19th at 3:00PM
How much: Free (?)
Scoop’d from: Email and such.

Among the featured artists are Mary Benedicto, Val Curry, Brian Jones, Daniel McFarlane, Brian Scott, Sunny Sliger and Bonnie Young. The show, Disturbance of Distance 2, has been running since mid-January, but on Saturday night they will have artist talks and a performance by Binary Sound Machine.

Side Note: Binary Sound Machine’s artist statement is thus: “Our artist statement is no statement at all. Our only goal is to fuck shit up.” Well said.

Rodeo Uncorked! Roundup and Best Bites Competition

Where: Reliant Center
When: Sunday, February 20th at 6:30PM
How much: $125 in advance; $150 at the door
Scoop’d from: Comment by Ashley

We’ll just use Ashley’s words: “If you’re an indecisive foodie with some change to spare the Rodeo Best bites happening this Sunday is really fun! the chef line up this year looks delish, all paired with wine!” I think she just called us a name and used “delish” which we’re morally against… Anyway, this year’s participants include Fox Hollow, Branch Water Tavern, Haven, Phoenicia Specialty Foods, Rainbow Lodge, and a whole lot more.
