The Look Ahead: “This is NOT Democracy,” 2011 NBA Draft Party and Southern Backtones at Rudyard’s

The rain is finally here. We’re all rejoicing. How long until the elation goes asunder? For us staffers, we could use a few more days of this kind of weather. Not sweating as soon as we step foot out the door is kind of nice. Either way, let’s look at some of the events that we can take advantage of this week.

Houston Rockets 2011 Draft Party at House of Blues

Where: Downtown – House of Blues [1204 Caroline St., 77002]
When: Thursday, June 23rd | Doors at 5:30PM
How much: Free

With appearances from last year’s draft pick as well as the Rockets Power Dancers and Clutch, House of Blues is the place to be tomorrow night if you’re a Houston basketball fan. Our hopes and dreams for the 2011 will be kickstarted as we see what Daryl Morey can pull out of his sleeve. No better way than cheering (or booing) with other like-minded folk.

Southern Backtones w/ Crazy Ivans at Rudyard’s British Pub

Where: Montrose [2010 Waugh Dr., 77006]
When: Saturday, June 25th | 10:00PM
How much: Let’s call it $10… Maybe
Scoop’d from: Our Concert Calendar

The above video is the trailer for Honky Tonk Blood, the movie that features Hank Schyma of Southern Backtones. If you can’t make it on Saturday night, keep your 6/29/11 Wednesday night free. The Backtones will be at it once again at Under the Volcano. They’re “can’t miss” dates with a little leeway to miss one. Perfect.
