The Look Ahead: White Snake, Devin the Dude, Paul Wall, Robert Ellis and Sideshow Tramps

It’s a short office week for most of us, which means we need to capitalize on the free time. Good thing for you we’re picking up some “dos” for the week. No “don’ts” on this list. We swear to you.

A Night of Music with Robert Ellis at Fitzgerald’s

When: Wednesday, November 23rd | Doors at 9:00PM
How much: $10 General Admission
Scoop’d from: Paul

Who is ready to hear some lauded praise of Robert Ellis? We would try our hand at it, but Pegstar’s description of the Houston musician would blow our prose out of the water:

The New York Times recently proclaimed that Houston, Texas native Robert Ellis sounds “equally inspired by Jackson Browne and George Jones.” Not a bad reference point for an artist only twenty-two years old. Ellis cut his teeth performing the songs of similar luminaries around town, most notably at the neighborhood beacon, Fitzgerald’s. His “Whiskey Wednesdays” at that club are regularly packed with punkish newcomers and graying locals sharing a mutual interest in artists ranging from Ray Price to Buck Owens to the Rolling Stones. Ellis has songwriting ability equal to his encyclopedic knowledge of these greats and it shines on his upcoming New West Records debut, Photographs, due this July. The young songwriter’s second release is an impressive and diverse concept album split between five breathtaking folk songs and five soon to be country standards. Listening to Photographs, one finds it difficult to pigeonhole Robert Ellis. It’s even harder to remember that he’s barely just begun.”

Devin the Dude with Paul Wall at Warehouse Live

Where: The Heights — Fitzgerald’s – Upstairs [2706 White Oak Dr., 77007]
When: Wednesday, November 23rd | Doors at 8:00PM
How much: $20 General Admission
Scoop’d from: Paul

We picked Paul Wall as one of our possible Celebrity Spokespeople for UH for Saturday’s ESPN GameDay. The producers didn’t listen to us, so as a consolation prize, we all have the opportunity to see him perform alongside Devin the Dude this Wednesday. This is one of the concerts we picked as a necessity a few weeks ago, so don’t make us say “we told you so” over Turkey on Thursday.

Sideshow Tramps w/ Caddywhompus and The Handshake at Fitzgerald’s

Where: The Heights — Fitzgerald’s – Upstairs [2706 White Oak Dr., 77007]
When: Thursday, November 24th | Doors at 8:00PM
How much: Free for 21 and up; $10 for those not of drinking age
Scoop’d from: Paul

At the last Sideshow Tramps concert we doubled up our coverage. First it was Paul’s experience and then Alex’s photos from the CD release party for Revelator. There’s no reason we will skip out on doing the same this time around. Come on, what do you have going on after Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. You’d be hard pressed to convince us that you have something more fun planned than Sideshow Tramps will deliver.
