The Procrastinator’s Plan 11.11.10
So I’m thinking that The Loop Scoop has finally arrived. Why, you ask? Because we’ve been getting a bunch of spam comments lately and that can only mean that people like us, they really, really like us. I’m not a big fan of spam, whether it’s in a can or online, but I’m always amazed at the tricks people try to drive traffic to their pharmacy or betting websites. And why is it that it’s only degenerate websites that use these tricks? Maybe the good guys should start spamming people too. On second thought, screw that. It’s too much work. We’ll just drive traffic the old fashioned way, putting boobies in every post.
While I’m usually scared to death of carnies, I give Cirque du Soleil the benefit of the doubt because they are high class carnies. This weekend, Cirque du Soleil’s Alegria and all the carnies that come with them will be at the Toyota Center. They’ll be wowing Houstonians with their high-flying acrobatics and general tomfoolery. The show, which is billed as a baroque ode to the energy, grace and power of youth, runs through this weekend. Personally, I’m thinking that they really should explore a show that celebrates the laziness, obesity and general apathy that is middle age. Now that’s something I could get excited about. Cirque du Soleil’s website http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/shows/alegria/show/about.aspx has more information about the show, the characters and the minds who came up with it.
The Life of the Party
Friday night marks the 2011 Houston Fire Fighter Calendar Debut Party and Fashion Show at the Firehouse Saloon. This is the perfect chance for all those ladies who just love a man in uniform to get out and ogle the objects of their affection while supporting a good cause. I think that I can overlook the fact that my girlfriend will be reduced to a drooling mess around the firemen since all the proceeds go to benefit The Houston Fire Fighters Burned and Crippled Children’s Fund. The Fund provides help for burned children and co-sponsors CAMP JANUS, a summer camp that gives burned children the chance to be around other children who have suffered serious burn injuries. The party runs from 5 PM to 9 PM and will feature a Fashion Show that kicks off at 7 PM. Micky and The Motorcars will be performing afterward, so not only will you be helping a good cause, but you’ll get to hear a great band. That’s always a win-win in my book.
Play Something We Know
I found out from one of my buddies that Freebirds at Shepherd Plaza has been doing an Unplugged Brunch on the weekends. Tim, who clued me in, loves it so much that he’s been there every weekend since he first heard about it. He and his son use it as a time to bond over a quick game of Life (who doesn’t carry that classic board game around with them) while jamming to some acoustic music and sipping on a bottomless mimosa. He says it’s an amazingly soothing experience that really opens up his chi. Though he’s constantly been trying to get me to join him, I have yet to experience the magic that is Freebird’s brunch. Maybe this is the weekend that I take him up on his open invitation… or maybe not. Either way, Tim will be there requesting some Dave Matthews from the guy playing guitar. Because, really, It wouldn’t be a Sunday brunch without some Dave to mellow everyone out. Peace, Love and Happiness, Bro.
