The Procrastinator’s Plan 12.26.09

If you’re anything like the staff here at The Loop Scoop, you wait until the last minute to do everything. In order to be of assistance to you, our loyal readers, we’ve chosen to provide you an itinerary of fun stuff to do for this weekend. Merry Christmas!!

Didn’t get what you wanted from Santa?
Whether you are looking to spend those holiday giftcards or just want to treat yourself to a present for being so good this year, hit up the amazing “After Christmas Sales” at many of your favorite retailers. Head to River Oaks and visit some favorite Houston boutiques where you can find great deals, like 30% off at Rebecca & Drew or Muse, which is offering 30% discounts on their entire inventory.

If you prefer to shop at the big department stores, Nordstrom is having it’s Half Yearly Sale for Men. Regular mall favorites like Ann Taylor (40% off entire purchase on Saturday ONLY) and J. Crew (Additional 20% off Sale starting today) are also offering great deals. Looking for a thrifty way to shop? Try Target, which is offering sale prices up to 75%. If you’ve been good all year, and want to squeeze in some naughty time before the new year, check out the semi annual sale at Victoria’s Secret which doesn’t officially kick off until January 2nd, but we’ve heard they’ve already started putting things on sale. So go ahead and indulge, we promise not to tell Santa.

Still Got the Holiday Bug?
If you don’t want to put away the Christmas decorations just yet, there is still time to catch one of the final performances of A Christmas Carol or The Nutcracker. Both shows run through Sunday, December 27th. A Christmas Carol, at the the Alley Theater, has shows at 7:30PM on Saturday and Sunday nights, as well as a matinee on Sunday at 2:30PM. Find your tickets here. The Houston Ballet’s 2009 rendition of The Nutcracker offers three more performances as well, with a Saturday night show at 7:30PM, matinee on Sunday at 2:00PM and the final showing at 7:00PM that night. The 7:00PM showing on Sunday also offers discounted tickets (if playing Santa has your wallet a bit tapped during the holidays). Score tickets to the ballet and impress everyone with how cultured you are here.

Family Still in Town?
If you are still playing host to the fam and you need to get out of the house for some fresh air, head down to one of The Loop Scoop’s favorite places, Discovery Green, and enjoy the outdoors at the Ice Skating rink. Peep more info from this week’s regular scoop. The Houston Children’s Museum is another great place to go if you’ve got kids. Take the whole family and enjoy a day at the museum. To make sure that you don’t miss anything, plan your visit here. The museum is open from 10:00AM to 6:00PM on Saturday and Noon to 6:00PM on Sunday.

Post Holiday Feeding?
If you’re ready to get a jump-start on your New Year’s resolutions and looking to eat something healthy while you’re out and about, hit up Zoe’s at one of it’s three Houston locations for tasty food that’s good for you as well. After gorging during the past few days, your waistline will thank you.

Still planning on feasting your way into the new year? How about brunch at Cyclone Anaya’s. It’s a great place to bring the family or to meet up with a group of friends. They serve brunch until 3:00PM on the weekends, so you don’t have to worry about getting up early. You will want to be early enough to take advantage of the bottomless mimosas and poinsettias, which stop flowing at 3:00PM. With various tasty brunch offering in addition to the regular menu, it’ll be easy to find something everyone in your group will love. Cyclone Anaya’s Brunch is quite popular, so don’t be surprised to find a wait, but the bottomless mimosas will help you through it. They have three locations, so find the one closest to you and get your holiday grub on!

Happy Holidays from everyone at the LoopScoop!

— Marc
