It’s a one-two punch of great music. Comment on this article and make sure to use a valid email address. We’ll pick a winner in a matter of hours.
Mates of State
It wasn’t until I saw them live at the Grenada, in Dallas a few years back, that I finally became a Mates of State fan. I’m sure the marriage to music puns have been done to death, so I’ll refrain from any of that “harmony on and off the stage is evident” business. For those that don’t know, they’re happily wed to one another. And, yeah, here goes—it’s reflected in their music both live and otherwise. With quirky songs and odd choices of instruments (the electric organ and drums), they’d make short work of any unflinching frowner. While they’ve used other combinations in more recent albums, their signature sound lies with simplicity. Poppy. Fun. Toe tapping simplicity. And by the by, they’re playing at Fitzgerald’s tonight and we’ve got some tickets to give away. Don’t “Think Long,” folks
Sometimes I find myself being that guy that gets more excited to see the opener than the headliner. In the case of The Generationals, I’m completely validated. They were quick to win me over a few months back when they opened for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., and I’ve been listening to their two albums on a loop for the last week. The bubblegum pop gets on the nerves of some, but the light, airiness of it all is intoxicating to me. You’re just going to have to “Trust” me on this on, folks. I mean, come on, I just told you about this last week…
Doors open at 8PM
Tickets (if you don’t win) are $15
To Win: Give us your favorite song by Mates of State or The Generationals. We need some songs to get excited for tonight.
