Ticket Giveaway: The Octopus Project w/ Bang Bangz at Fitzgerald’s

We’re hoping to make this a habit. We have another pair of tickets to giveaway. This week, you will be treated to The Octopus Project and Bang Bangz at Fitzgerald’s. The show pairs established, experimental The Octopus Project with the brand-spanking new Bang Bangz out of Houston. Should be an interesting mix. It’s all-local, all-indietronica tonight.

The Octopus Project
Music is Happiness… Austin-based The Octopus Project is returning to Houston, bringing their danceable, happy, dream-like, semi-electronic pop to Fitzgeralds tonight. I caught this band at ACL is 2008 and again at the inaugural Summerfest in 2009, and have been a fan ever since. All 5 band members play multiple instruments, and they even feature a theremin and Words With Friends jackpot xylophone. I look forward to seeing them perform some of their new songs lie “Wet Gold” and “Hallucinists” off their 2010 release Hexadecagon, but mainly I’m going to see them play my old favorites like “Truck,” “I Saw the Bright Shinies,” and “Music is Happiness.”

Bang Bangz
Talk about a brand new band. They only just debuted in September, released two singles and are hoping for their first EP to be released next month. Get in with the other ground floor fans (and by that I mean “like” their facebook page that has less than 300 bumps as of this moment). You can check out four of their songs on Bandcamp (my favorite is “Wrong“). At first listen, it looks like we have a very melodic, undulating vibe to lead us into The Octopus Project tonight and into THE GREAT BEYOND.

Doors Open at 8:00PM
Tickets are $15

To win, give us your favorite song from one of the bands, experience at a previous live show, or just give us the name of another new Houston band that we need to be paying attention to.

Favorite song: The Octopus Project – The Adjustor
This is my first time seeing them live.
And another good and up and coming band in Houston is Buxton.

Now where do I pick up my tickets? :)

There was a time last year in May that they came here, to Houston. I had seen them in Austin during SxSW, which was an awesome show. However, this one was more intimate because It was in my home town. Warehouse live was the venue. DEVO was headlining. The amount of lights and sounds my brain took in that evening was enough to give a grown man decent dreams. No alcohol or heavy drugs needed for this one. I was already taken away by the performance of them alone!

Favorite song: The Octopus Project – Porno Disaster.

They were the very first band I saw play at SxSW and they played at the Whole Foods haha. They played outside the store in a giant tent, and had the whole crowd grooving. Awesome way to kick off South by.

The Octopus Project : Hallucinists

Saw them at an after party gig after Fun Fest 3 years ago. Awesome show.

My favorite track from Bang Bangz is ‘Since Last Night’ – reminds me of The XX, but better because they’re local!

I’ve seen both bands live before – Bang Bangz @ Fitz and Octopus Project @ Wild Frontier Fest. Both shows were hugely entertaining, and I think seeing them together would be an interesting mix of chill meets high energy.

One of my favorite up-and-coming local bands is Wild Moccasins. Their tour kick-off show was excellent, from the stage deco to the energy – all around greatness ensued.

Andy N. is the winner. Congratulations.

I guess the saying is correct, “if you’re not first, you’re last.” (Even though we literally pulled the name from a hat.)

Hope to see the rest of you out there.
