What’d We Miss: 9.4.11 Weekly Reader

Chadd Thomas Memorial Benefit at Continental Club by Paul
Paul didn’t get a chance to stick around very long, but he managed to get a glimpse of the Dolly Rockers and Johnny Falstaff at the Chadd Thomas Memorial Benefit show. As far as these kinds of things are concerned, the mood wasn’t very morose, which seems a testament to the man passed more than anything else.

Staff Notes and Photos: Necessary Fireworks by Richard
There haven’t been too many reasons to get excited for Astros games this year. If you go on Friday night you’re in for a treat of fireworks at least. That’s what Richard learned.

H-Town Showdown: #1 Saint Arnold Pub Crawl vs. #6 The Greek Festival
If the comments have bearing on the votes, this is a highly contentious match-up. But they don’t. The Greek Festival proponents are more talkative, but they don’t have the numbers to take down the #1 seed yet.

Outdoor Journal: Catfish Crazy on Lake Houston by Tea Jones
If there’s one thing you should know about Tea Jones it’s that he’s a man of many talents. A writer? You bettya. A fisherman? Hellz yes. He takes you on a tour of Lake Houston while he hunts down some catfish for a fry to be had at a later date. Take him up on his invitation to the lake and try out his recipe while you’re at it.

Street Art of the Week: Coming Soon
We take a look at Eyesore’s work through the lens of a camera. This close up of Eyesore’s quintessential face is presented to you for your critic’s eye and street-art-loving heart.

Where’s Pauldo (ep. 79)
This photo was submitted by Richard last week. He has a keen eye on shelved commodities. And so does Kevin, for that matter. He snuck in to take away the grand prize.

Loopster Live: Robert Earl Keen’s Ready for Confetti CD Release at Cactus Music by Richard
Our star author was a little disappointed at the lack of songs from the Texas country man, but time restraints must be dealt with. REK took the stage, Richard bought the album. Everyone was a winner, right? What was your experience?

Photo of the Week: Bulldog on Bock
What was the official drink of your weekend? The British Bulldog happens to be a big fan of Shiner Bock. It makes sense if you think about it. Well, maybe not. Just don’t think about it. Go with the flow.

Write-Off: Politics of the Big 1? by Marc and Paul
If you haven’t caught on by now, Marc and Paul both count the University of Houston as their alma mater. With the Big 12 shake-up reaching earthquake proportions, they take a look at the use of political leverage in the capitol to get U of H into the Big 12. What now?
